For a healthier diet, here are some examples of easy switches and smart food choices.
Meat, Fish and Poultry
Limit:
- fatty meats
- sausage
- bacon
- organ meats
- tuna packed in oil
- bologna
- hot dogs
- salami
- lunch meats
Smart substitutes: lean cuts of beef
- rump
- round
- flank steak
- london broil
- lamb
- pork
- poultry (no skin)
- trim off all fat
- opt for fish and poultry more often
- tuna packed in water
- sliced turkey or chicken
Eggs and Dairy
Limit:
- whole eggs
- sour cream
- mayonaise
- american or cheddar cheese
- cream cheese
- whole or 2% milk
Smart Substitute:
- egg whites
- plain, low fat yogurt
- frozen yogurt
- ice milk
- sherbert or sorbet
- low-fat cheeses, like ricotta, mozzarella (made with skim milk)
- skim or 1% milk
