How to Reduce Stress in Your Daily Life

EmailEmailPrintPrint

No one wants to be stressed out all the time. Being in a constant state of tension and anxiety can really take a toll on our physical health. Stress has been linked to headaches, fatigue, sleep disturbances, alcohol and drug problems, mood swings and many other ailments. Essentially, stress can be overwheliming and just wears us out.

Follow these simple steps to keeping your stress in balance.

The following steps can be found in an article by uhanekai from www.eHow.com

Step 1
Slow and balanced breathing will signal your brain to essential relax. It will help the circulation of oxygen run through your body and brain to bring balance mentally and physically. Whenever you have a minute out of your day or when you start to feel stressed, simply take as many long, deep even inhalations and exhalations. You will feel more relaxed, calm, and centered. This is also a great technique to practice right before a presentation, interview, or other nerve-wracking circumstances.

Step 2
Don't have too much caffeine. This will cause your body to work overtime and become fatigued faster, having stress be more apt to kick in. It's best to have no more than 2 cups of coffee/soda a day, and don't have any caffeine 5 hours prior to bedtime.

Step 3
Make your bedroom your relaxing sanctuary only. Watching tv, doing bills or work, or having an argument in the bedroom will create a negative pattern and vibe for that room. Keep it to sleep and...well, intamacy only- positive things.

Step 4
Have a set sleeping pattern. Make sure you are getting the right amount of sleep, or at least go to bed and wake up at the same times. Your body will become familiar with it and will be ready for sleep and wake at the appropriate times. Naps are actually not a good idea, as it can throw your sleeping pattern off. If you have trouble getting to sleep, don't keep trying. Either do something relaxing like Yoga, breathing, read a book, or get up and walk around a little bit.

Step 5
Talk! If you start to feel weighed down with an issue, it should be dealt with in a healthy communicative manner. Don't take it out on ones close to you, this will cause even more stress and a hinderance on all around you.

Step 6
If you tend to think ahead- stop! There's no use worrying about something that is not right in front of you. While it's good to plan ahead, that's not the same as being a worry-wort, which won't produce a solution.

Step 7
Stay active- getting exercise improves circulation & energy and decreases stress levels.
