Mitral Valve Repair: How long is it good for?

Ask Kelly Question:
I have had a mitral valve repaired about 6 years ago or more . My question for you, is how many years before you have to have that valve replaced?

Green Bay Cardiothoracic and Vascular

The goal with mitral valve repair is to create a durable valve that never needs to be replaced. Statistically, there is less than 10% chance that a well repaired valve will need any future intervention. Hopefully, you will never need a valve replaced or reoperated on. The only reason to consider more surgery is if a problem develops (congestive heart failure, shortness of breath) and the valve is leaking again.
